In honor of our 10th Anniversary, we’re looking back at Renegade’s journey since its founding. This month we are taking a look back at 2022 and 2023.

There were a ton of amazing things that happened in 2022 but one moment that comes to mind was the release of My Fathers Work. Following a successful Kickstarter campaign with over 10,000 backers, this worker placement game by TC Petty III was released to gamers all over the world. This epic Victorian mad scientist game captivated gamers with its unique theme, strategic choices, and narrative design. My Father's Work would go on to be nominated for multiple awards, including a recommendation in 2023 from American Tabletop Complex Games and the 2022 Dice Tower Award for Best Theming.

Another large box game that came out in 2022 was G.I. JOE Mission Critical. This game utilizes the well-loved Guardian System designed by Jonathan Ying, which was introduced in Power Rangers Heroes of the Grid. In this game, players step into the boots of the JOEs and work together to take down Cobra. The Mission Critical line continued to expand with multiple expansions being released. 

Games filled with action and adventure kept coming throughout 2022 as we released three roleplaying games: the G.I. JOE RPG, Power Rangers RPG, and Transformers RPG. These games would introduce Renegade’s original roleplaying game system, Essence 20. Fans of these iconic stories could now make their own character and experience these worlds like never before! All three lines have many accessories, sourcebooks, and adventures today.

Speaking of roleplaying games another great RPG, Hunter: The Reckoning, joined Renegade’s catalog in 2022! Renegade’s collaboration with World of Darkness would add a new 5th Edition Core Rulebook to the Hunter: The Reckoning line. In this game, players take on the role of a human who has discovered the supernatural world lurking in the shadows. The Hunter: The Reckoning line now includes accessories, sourcebooks, and more content on the way! 

One special moment in 2022 was our return to Gen Con post-pandemic. This was the biggest Gen Con we had (We’ve since done bigger!) with multiple rooms, a Renegade Community Bash, the first time having the Renegade Passport, Golden Tickets, and so much more!

We hosted demos, had a whole space dedicated to our World of Darkness games, and sold out of over a dozen titles at the booth! This was truly a Gen Con to remember!

In 2023 we expanded our partnership with Hasbro to publish new editions of some classic strategy games. This included Axis & Allies 1941, 1942, 1940 Europe, 1940 Pacific, and 1914, along with Robo Rally, Acquire, and Diplomacy! These evergreen games brought their amazing and active fanbases into our Renegade family! 

Another great strategy title that came out in 2023 was Legacy of Yu! This game published in collaboration with Garphill Games by designer Shem Phillips is a solo-only, fully-resettable, nonlinear campaign game set in the Xia Dynasty. This game sold out fast upon release and has since been reprinted multiple times. Legacy of Yu would also go on to win the Golden Geek Award for Best Solo Game of 2023 along with the 2023 Origins Award for Best Solo Game.

Strategy games weren’t the only thing we were releasing in 2023. Werewolf: The Apocalypse 5th Edition Core Rulebook made its debut at Gen Con that year. Renegade’s collaboration with World of Darkness would add a new 5th Edition Core Rulebook. In this RPG players are a new generation of Garou who confront the forces of destruction, avarice, and greed ravaging the earth-mother. The Werewolf line has continued to expand with multiple books and accessories now available.

Speaking of roleplaying games, we also released the Essence 20 Field Guide to Action and Adventure Crossover Sourcebook in 2023! This crossover sourcebook is for the Power Rangers Roleplaying Game, G.I. JOE Roleplaying Game, and Transformers Roleplaying Game. It provides advice for all three games individually plus options for combining characters or threats in an epic crossover adventure! At Gen Con in 2023 we hosted our first World’s Collide Event which utilized the crossover rules presented in this book. Players got together to combat Lord MindWaveZ in this crazy crossover story. The Field Guide would win the Ennies Judges Spotlight Award in 2024.
