October Staff Picks!

Pumpkins aren't the only thing we're picking!

October flew by huh? As we transition from a spooky October to a cozy, autumnal November, we here at Renegade are reflecting on some of our favorite games and moments from the past month. Here are three of the biggest standouts of October as chosen by Renegade Staff members.

Alice is Missing

Happy Spooky Month! October is the most wonderful time of the year at our house (we got married on Halloween!) so we go all out with keeping a creepy and ominous atmosphere. Plus, with all the puzzles I’ve been designing for the Welcome to Night Vale Backerkit campaign, mystery and puzzle games are on the front of my brain.

Enter a house favorite- Alice is Missing. A totally silent game played via text messages and group chats where the players are high school students discussing and possibly solving the mystery of their missing friend, Alice Briarwood.
If you add in the soundtrack, it really feels like you’re experiencing a movie like Missing or Unfriended. We play it pretty often around here and it’s a great game for when you’re feeling a little low-energy and don’t want to talk; or when you want to see exactly how much your friends can communicate via facial expressions.

Robo Rally

On your mark...get set....RACE! One game I played again this month and is on my mind is Robo Rally. Robo Rally is a TON of fun if you like racing games, programmed movement, and a whole lot of chaos! In this game, players race around the factory trying to avoid disaster as they race through the checkpoints to victory. This is a programmed movement game, where each player has a pre-set deck of cards they use to program out what their robots will do. Strategy and planning is needed to keep you on track, as there are elements on the factory board such as conveyor belts and pits, along with the other robots racing, that can both harm or improve your shot at victory.

Upgrade cards allow players to customize their robots and hopefully give them an edge. This game is super easy to teach and learn. I've taught it at my local FLGS at game night, to my family, and my friends. I found that even the "non gamers" in my life really enjoy this one because of its hilarious chaos and easy to understand rules. But if I had to pick ONE reason why this game is awesome... it's Twonky. Twonky is adorable. :)

Roll For Sandwich X Renegade Game Studios

Let's throw it back to the beginning of the month when we collaborated with TikTok user Adventures in Aardia for a very special episode of Roll For Sandwich to celebrate the launch of our Welcome to Night Vale Roleplaying Game crowdfunding campaign! In all honesty, I've been a fan of RFS literally since the beginning, and I was beyond excited for this collaboration!

If you've been living under a rock, Roll For Sandwich is a video series where Jacob rolls on a table of ingredients to randomize his lunch. Many ingredients are familiar to any sandwich savant ala whole wheat bread or pickles. However, they get wilder and wilder every week with food items you may never think to put together much less put in your mouth *shudders*. Sometimes, these crazy combos compliment each other, but sometimes...well...sometimes they don't. For the episode we sponsored, I suggested he add pizza slices to the list (because no one does a slice like Big Rico's), so I was pumped when he rolled that as the bread option.
