In honor of our 10th Anniversary, we’re looking back to Renegade’s journey since its founding. Take a look back with us to see what we were up to in 2018 and 2019!

Renegade Game Studios released some truly amazing games in 2018, one of them being the cozy dragon card game, The Tea Dragon Society, designed by Steve Ellis and Tyler Tinsley. Published in collaboration with Oni Games, this game is based on the Tea Dragon Society graphic novel by Katie O’Neill. Players care for a create a bond with their dragon pal by building their deck with memories. 

The game would win the Origins Award for Best Family Game of the Year in 2019. On its 12th printing with tens of thousands of copies sold, this family game is a staple in the Renegade catalog.

Another great collaboration to come out in 2018 was Architects of the West Kingdom by S J Macdonald and Shem Phillips. Renegade’s partnership with Garphill Games has brought many terrific games to players all over the world and continues to today. Architects of the West Kingdom is an exciting worker placement strategy game where players compete to impress the King by building notable landmarks. 

This game has received over 20 awards, recommendations, and nominations since it came out such as the 2019 Kennerspiel des Jahres Recommendation, was the 2018 Board Game Quest Awards Best Strategy/Euro Game Winner, UK Games Expo's 2019 Best New Boardgame (Euro-Style), and the 2019 Mensa Select Winner to name a few acclaims.

Renegade also continued to dive into the world of RPGs in 2018, and in collaboration with Hunters Entertainment, Kids on Bikes was released! Designed by Jonathan Gilmour and Doug Levandowski, Kids on Bikes is a collaborative storytelling RPG set in small towns filled with strange and powerful foes. 

The RPG would go on to win the 2019 Gold ENNIE Award for Best Family Game/Product. The game would also see several other additions to the series such as Kids on Bikes: Strange Adventures, Kids on Brooms, Teens in Space, and most recently, Kids on Bikes: Second Edition released in May 2024.

Looking forward to 2019, one game that made a splash was Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid! This cooperative miniatures game designed by Jonathan Ying was Rengeade’s first Power Rangers Game. Heroes of the Grid lets you step into the boots of the Rangers and fight off notorious enemies. 

The buzz and the community built off the core game would spawn dozens of expansions in the years to come with new Rangers and Villians being introduced to the game. With so much content, there are countless hours of fun available to Power Rangers fans through Heroes of the Grid!

2019 would also usher in the first game in the Renegade Solo Hero Series, Proving Grounds! Designed by Kane Klenko, players take on the role of Maia Strongheart, a warrior entering the Proving Grounds to fight monsters, prove her innocence, and reclaim her family's throne. This game's rich narrative along with real-time battles provide a fun and challenging experience for solo gamers. This game introduced the Solo Hero Series, with games such as Wreckland Run and Warp’s Edge to follow, with the latest installment, Unstoppable, coming in 2025.
