A Look Back At 2024!
Posted by Renegade Game Studios on Dec 19th 2024
In honor of our 10th Anniversary, we’ve been looking back at Renegade’s journey since its founding. This month brings our journey to a close as we reminisce about the current year coming to an end. Let’s look back at what we’ve been up to in 2024!
Released in early 2024 was The Vale of Eternity. This game blew up upon its release, with high praises already sung for the original Korean version published by Mandoo Games. Renegade’s partnership with Mandoo brought the game to English speakers around the world. The Vale of Eternity received rave reviews and is recommended by Shut Up & Sit Down, the Winner of Mensa Select® 2024, and has been awarded The Dice Tower Seal of Excellence. The debut expansion, The Vale of Eternity Artifacts Expansion, was released this month. It has been called the “perfect expansion” by Man vs. Meeple and brings new fun and strategy to this combo-licious game of monster taming!
This was also an exciting year for Axis & Allies fans! The first “Powered by Axis & Allies” Game, G.I. JOE: Battle for the Arctic Circle, and the first Renegade Original Axis & Allies title, North Africa, were released. Designed by Matt Hyra, Battle for the Arctic Circle merged the world of G.I. JOE into Axis & Allies, having the classic gameplay fans of Axis & Allies are accustomed to but with the action-packed excitement of the JOEs.
Released a few months later was Axis & Allies North Africa. Designed by Matt Hyra and Larry Harris, North Africa was designed after a community poll where fans of the game voiced their desire for an Axis & Allies game with this theatre of war. Hyra and Harris delivered, designing two scenarios and six new units for the game. Both Battle for the Arctic Circle and North Africa were met with excitement by fans of Axis & Allies and new players wanting to try the new games in the line.
Speaking of classic strategy games, Axis & Allies, Robo Rally, and Acquire released Anniversary Editions this year! The highly sought-after Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition was released for the game’s 40th anniversary. The re-release of this deluxe edition includes a huge 24” x 46” game board and over 670 plastic miniatures. A deluxe map for the game was also released alongside the Anniversary Edition. Robo Rally also got a deluxe makeover for its 30th Anniversary. The special anniversary edition adds Trundle Bot and Twitch, bringing the player count up to 8, along with deluxe components and new game boards.
Acquire celebrated its 60th Anniversary this year and also got a deluxe-ified version. This edition sports themed weighted poker chips, a drawstring tile bag, a removable Stock and HQ tray, and more! This version also re-introduces the Player Power game variants which haven’t been seen in an English printing of Acquire since 1995! All three editions of these classic games honor and celebrate these timeless titles.
We can’t talk about 2024 without talking about Heroscape! Renegade released this fan-favorite miniatures game in August. The revival of Heroscape kicked off with the Battle for the Wellspring Battle Box, the Age of Annihilation Master Set, and The Grove at Laur’s Edge Terrain Expansion. The Battle Box and the Master Set rolled out with a standard, unpainted edition, and a premium painted edition, allowing players to dive right into the game with painted minis or customize their figures. The Heroscape Organized Play Program also debuted around the same time with the introduction of the Battle Network and the 20th Anniversary Championship Event at Gen Con.
Since then, the Heroscape train has not stopped chugging along! Two army expansions and two terrain expansions were released in October adding more figures and terrain to the game. Organized Play has also remained strong, with events constantly being listed on the Battle Network. We’ve released some special OP figures for the program as well, with Shiori debuting for the Launch Tournaments and Cornelius Breech joining the fray for Heroscape Day Tournaments. We also announced some big plans for the line this year! This includes more army expansions, terrain expansions, and a paint set coming in February and April of 2025. The love for the game and the vibrant and active Heroscape community have made this a truly epic experience for all of us at Renegade! We look forward to supporting Heroscape in the years to come!
Thank you for taking a look back at 2024 and celebrating our 10th Anniversary with us. The past 10 years have been packed with fun, games, and great memories. This journey has been amazing and we look forward to making more games for you all!
